I am thinking about upgrading my windows in my home. What do I need to know to qualify for a tax credit?

Improving Door and Windows

We are looking to improve our front door and all house windows. Are there any rebates available for this type of renovation?

Upgrading Windows and Doors

Contact your local Touchstone Energy Electric Cooperative about rebates they may offer first.

Tax credits for window and door replacement are for existing homes only, are for 30% of the cost up to a maximum of $1500, and expire December 31, 2010. Tax credits are for certain ENERGY STAR products.

See http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=tax_credits.tx_index for additional information.

RE: Upgrading my Windows

According to the Department of Energy, “consumers who purchase and install specific products, such as energy-efficient windows, insulation, doors, roofs, and heating and cooling equipment in existing homes can receive a tax credit for 30% of the cost, up to $1,500, for improvements "placed in service" starting January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2010.” For more information visit the DOE’s web site.http://www.energy.gov/taxbreaks.htm
